The French Revolution
The Causes of the French Revolution:
- The third estate:
- peasants were forced to do military service
- peasants could not hunt of fish on the nobles’ estates
- peasants had to pay taxes to their lord, king and the church
- peasants had to use the lord’s mill, oven and wine press, and pay for them
- peasants made up of 90% of the population
- The first and second estate:
- Nobles had almost complete authority over peasants
- Nobles did not have to do military service
- Nobles were exempt from most taxes
- Nobles collected tolls from people using roads and markets
- Nobles many nobles and clergy lived in great luxury in chateaux and places
FIGURES IN THE FRENCH REVOLUTION:
- Napoleon:
-Napoleon changed education were made under Napoleons rule. There were now 4 grades of school. Schools had just started to stress the importance or obedience and military values. Science and maths became more important subjects in secondary schools. Inn1814, 9,000 kids were attending 36 schools, out of a population of 30 million.
-Napoleon governing France:
- He became emperor, and couldn't be removed. There were now two national assemblies that the members chosen by Napoleon from the peoples choice. All men could vote.
